May 20th - Calling All Youth and Young Adults

posted Apr 27, 2017, 10:17 AM by Adrienne Wilder

People First of Alabama has been implementing our Young Emerging Leaders grant over the past couple of years.
We are proud to announce that we will be presenting regular bi-monthly day-long programs on a variety of topics that will develop important leadership skills. The programs are for youth with disabilities ages 16 to 26 years of age.

May 20 (see attached) is our first day. We will use self-advocates as trainers as well as other community leaders, researchers, and activists.  All the programs are interactive and fun.  Every participant will be supported to find a way to apply their new skills in a simple project that represents their own interest in the topic.

It Really is ALL about OUR RIGHTS!

Enable Alabama:  The ABLE Account Plan for Alabama Citizens

The Enable Alabama Savings Plan is Alabama’s new ABLE Act account program.  The ABLE Act allows individuals with disabilities to save funds for their future in an income tax-free account that does not count as part of the $2,000 resource limit.  Enable Alabama helps individuals with disabilities save up to an additional $14,000 per year to pay for qualified disability expenses without affecting their “means-tested” benefits, such as SSI and Medicaid. Come learn about this new opportunity.
